About Amy

I’m Amy Boardman, a watercolor and acrylic artist based in Huntsville, Alabama (Madison County). My work is inspired by faith, nature, and the beauty woven into everyday moments. I create coastal scenes, still life compositions, landscapes, pet portraits, and botanicals that reflect hope, joy, and gratitude.

Art has been a constant thread throughout my life. As a child, I spent countless hours drawing at my grandparents’ dining room table, inspired by my father’s teenage sketches. I later studied Interior and Graphic Design in college, with a focus in Management, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

Over the years, our family’s many relocations and travels across the U.S. broadened and enriched my perspective and deeply influenced my artistic voice, even as I devoted myself to raising three children.

A milestone moment in my creative journey came when my “Six Geese A-Laying” ornament was selected for display on the White House Christmas tree—an honor I deeply cherish.

As my children approached graduation and began their next chapters, I felt a powerful call to begin mine—returning to painting. Luke 16:10a echoed in my heart: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” That truth inspired me to transform an unfinished basement into a sacred creative space I lovingly dubbed The Dungeon Studio—a place where faith and art reconnected.

That quiet return to painting became a defining moment and a new beginning: I wasn’t just making art—I was stepping into my calling.

Faith & Art as Worship

Just as a song can be worship, so can a brushstroke offered in gratitude and obedience. Each canvas becomes a quiet surrender—an act of trust, creativity, and reverence. Even as I pursue my livelihood through art, I see it as a sacred act of obedience and stewardship.

1 Corinthians 10:31 says: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the flory of God.” Painting is how I live that verse out. It’s where my heart, hands, and spirit meet in honoring Him. In my studio, I slow down, listen, and allow God to speak through color, form, and the beauty He made.

Each painting session is my time spent with Him—intimate, quiet, and purposeful. Every finished piece is not a display of my ability, but a testimony of His presence. My art is the conduit to stir hearts, invite reflection, and point others back to the source of all beauty and hope.

When I paint, I’m not striving—I’m surrendering in worship.

Today, I see my creative process as an act of worship—an invitation to view life through a lens of wonder, grace, and intention. Each piece is rooted in the belief that we are all masterpieces, crafted by the Original Artist. My goal is to glorify God through beauty that uplifts the spirit and draws hearts closer to Him.

For me, painting is not just a creative outlet, a skill, or a career—it is a response to God’s calling on my life. I believe each of us is created with a unique purpose, and when we align our gifts with His will, we are worshipping Him in spirit and in truth.

Worship isn’t confined to music or church walls—it is found in the daily act of surrender, in offering what we’ve been given back to the Giver. When I paint, I am not simply creating something beautiful—I’m honoring the Creator who made beauty itself. I’m using the gifts He entrusted to me to reflect His nature: creativity, beauty, order, wonder, and life.

Amy Boardman Art Painting Process

My Painting Process

My creative process often begins with walks in nature or browsing through photo references I’ve taken—simple moments that spark awe, wonder, and delight. I also spend time meditating on Scripture, praying, and inviting God into the process. Often, I’ll paint with Christian music in the background, creating an atmosphere of worship and peace.

From there, I begin with a Notan study - a value sketch that explores the balance of light and dark, focusing on the underlying shapes and patterns in the composition. This helps me plan the structure and choose a color scheme, often incorporating complementary colors to create both harmony and visual interest.

I then sketch a simple outline and transfer it to canvas or paper, where I begin working in layers. With watercolors, I begin with light washes in the background, gradually builing up the middle ground, and foreground with details. With acrylics, the approach is often reversed—I often start with darker values and layer progressively lighter tones as the piece evolves.

Throughout the process, I stay mindful of light, shadow, and the emotional tone I want to convey. It is a thoughtful rhythm of structure and spontaneity.

Whether I’m capturing a still life, a coastal breeze, or a beloved pet, my hope is to translate what I see and feel into something the brings beauty, hope, joy, reflection, and peace to the viewer.

The Heart Behind My Art

With each new chapter of life, my art evolves—shaped by the serenity of the mountains, the peaks and valleys of life’s journey, and the quiet expanse of the open plains. With every painting, I aim to inspire others to pause, slow down, embrace the present moment, and find beauty in the here and now.

Each day is a precious gift—a chance to make a difference, pursue excellence, and extend grace, love, and encouragement to those around us.

It’s in life’s small, everyday experiences that I find lasting joy and fulfillment. I hope my artwork encourages a spirit of gratitude and mindfulness—a renewed way of seeing the world with wonder and delight.

I strive to bring the everyday beauty of life into my art—celebrating nature and life’s little moments, and inspiring gratitude, joy, and hope—one painting at a time.
